Who Ought To Take Care of Elders

Recently an article in your newspaper, concerning whether the young should take care of their parents when they grow old; or should it be the responsibilities of the state, attracts my attention. I’d like to put myself into this discussion.

In my view, both the young and the state should take the responsibilities of taking care of elder groups. My reasons are as followings: first, young people should appreciate their parents for giving them births. And almost every couple dedicates their most time and efforts to the growth of children. Their parents from all aspects care the young. It is parents who help young to become useful figures. So it’s the young’s duties to take care of their parents when they grow old.

Second, only depending on the young is unrealistic. This is determined by China’s status quo. In China, most couples have only one child. Then it implies that one young couple has to take care of four elders. With the more fierce competition, how could the young take god care of elders? So from this angle, the state has to take a part of responsibilities to lift the young’s heavy burdens.

Third, elders could live well through the mutual efforts between the young and the state. As for the young, like a song singing, they should spend more time going back home to stay with their parents no matter how busy they are. This is the biggest wish of parents.

Elders not only need money and good living conditions, but also need mental consoles. The latter one is more vital for elders. As for the state, it should perfect the social insurance and medical system to make a warm and convenient environment for elders.

Everyone would get old, so please treat old people kindly. Let them feel always being concerned and cared from all aspects!
